Weekly Learning Review
Class:    FS1          Week Ending:  8 March 2018
Communication, Language and Literacy
This week in FS1 the  children have been learning about the letter L-l  and the sound it makes. We practised tracing and recognition of this letter.
The children have also been learning words that start with the letter L-l (ladder, lamp, light, leaf, lion, lemon, lady bug, letter, lunch ).

We have also been singing rhymes ( Jolly phonics –letter L-l) .

1) Worksheet-  Colour and recognize things that start with the letter Ll
2) Lion Craft ( paint & decorate activity using glue and orange strips of paper with different textures )
3)Tracing Letter ‘l’ (laminated sheets)
Physical Development
Working on developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination by sorting out colours, matching shapes, colouring inside the lines and tracing on dots, puzzles .
Working on posture while sitting on the chair and developing good table manners.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
The children have been learning about team work and co-operation. We have been playing the ‘ladder game’ ( l for ladder). The children have been asked to sit on the carpet, in pairs, facing each other, with their legs straight .There have been 9 teams, as 9 steps of the ladder.
We have been using this game for both Literacy and Maths.

In Literacy we learned 9 new words that start with the letter l ( ladder, lamp, light, leaf, lion, lemon, lady bug, letter, lunch). We read a story containing the ‘l’ words and  whenever the children identified the ‘l’ word, they held up a flashcard with the corresponding ‘l’ word.
We have been using the same game in Maths ( to teach number recognition 1-9). Each team was given flashcards with numbers 1-9 and were asked to stand and go up the ladder whenever they heard the teacher saying their number.
The game teaches taking turns, patience,coordination, team-work and co-operation.

Children have reviewed their knowledge about the number 9. They practiced counting 9  bear –toys  (pencils/ coins/ dots ). They also practiced number formation through hands on activities (play –dough mats for number 8) as well as more abstract concepts about numbers ( tracing with markers or pencils). They can show number 8 using their fingers.
They have also been singing songs about numbers.

Colour (orange).
Children have been introduced to the colour orange.  They are able to recognize and name this colour . They have been using orange paint and orange shapes during this week.
Shape (Hexagon)
The new term has been introduced. The children have been given orange hexagon pre-cut shapes to match onto their worksheets with a pre-printed hexagons. They have also identified hexagon objects from a variety of different shaped objects and  coloured them in.

Expressive Art and Design
This week’s craft relates to most of this week’s knowledge (colour orange, letter Ll, wild animals) -  LION craft.

Understanding of the World

This week, the children have learned about the ‘ Wild Animals’ .
The story of the week has been The Jungle Book”.  The book is related to the theme of this month, ‘ Plants and Animals ’ and, moreover, to this week’s focus .

New vocabulary : bear, panther, wolf, tiger, monkey, jungle, wild.
The children have been working collaboratively on a collage about wild animals. They have all coloured different wild  animals and glued them on a big card board about animals in the wild. We have also revised wild animal sounds.
